Sustainability is a pervasive word that is not going away any time soon. Campuses and corporations are taking lofty strides to plan for the future, minimize their carbon footprint and establish short-term and long-term sustainability goals. Sustainability is an important element of design, construction, and commissioning that requires striking a balance between initial costs, owner project requirements and potential future cost savings. Reducing energy consumption through thoughtful design, consistent maintenance practices, and the use of energy efficient systems and controls is advantageous to the owners and tenants presently and in the years to come. Commissioning is an excellent tool to minimize the effect of facilities on their physical environment. Our commissioning agents work with the project team from pre-design through the post-acceptance phases of a project with a focus on efficiency accreditation goals through such rating systems as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program, Energy Star, and the Green Building Initiative’s Green Globes.
